Carbon monoxide (CO) is extremely deadly, which is why being able to detect CO in your home is so important. It is often referred to as “the silent killer” due to the fact that it is very difficult for a human to detect on their own. It doesn't smell, taste and cannot be seen.
CO is found in fumes produced any time you burn fuel in cars or trucks, small engines, stoves, lanterns, grills, fireplaces, gas ranges, or furnaces. CO can build up indoors and poison people and animals who breathe it.
Below are a few tips to keep you safe from CO:
Install CO detectors on EVERY floor of your home or business, five feet from the ground (where they can get the best reading).
Maintain CO detectors
DO NOT run motors in enclosed areas.
NEVER use a gas stove or oven to heat a home.
Make sure all vents are clear to your dryer, stove, furnace, fireplace, etc.
Just as a precaution, here are the signs of the start of being CO poisoned:
headache
dizziness
weakness
upset stomach
vomiting
chest pain
confusion.
Be sure you are preforming routine maintenance and take the appropriate precautions to keep you and your family safe from Carbon Monoxide.
